Pas de Deux is a ballet term applied to a performance by two ballet dancers, traditionally the lead male and female dancers in a production. In the case of this painting, is the dance for two the relationship between the diminutive ballerina and her music box dancer or her dreams of someday becoming the Prima Ballerina she hopes to be?
