About Travis Louie

Travis Louie grew up in Queens, New York, about 2 miles from the site of the 1964 World's Fair. After graduating from Pratt Institute in 1990, he worked as an illustrator for 13 years and his book "Curiosities" has sold out both print runs. He stopped actively pursuing illustration work in 2003 and currently creates most of his artwork for exhibits in galleries and museum shows all over the world. He is a professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York. My work is about identity and remembrance, with a veiled commentary on racism and the immigrant experience. I would like the fear of "the other" to be replaced with a curiosity about the unknown and a sense of wonder regarding those things that are unfamiliar.
