Description

Amelia Earhart went missing in 1937 near Howland Island, in the Pacific, but she was a Kansas girl. I could not truly come to grips with "she just disappeared." What if she, like Alice in Wonderland, fell down her version of the rabbit hole? What if she simply forgot how to fly home? I wanted to capture the summer grasslands of the Kansas foothills as well as the huge skies because I thought that would be the starting place for her. A child's coin operated plane seemed more true to the Kansas timeline. I chose to put her in frilly pink girl clothes because it was NOT who she was. She just needs to remember...
