About Barbara Kee

In first grade I began sculpting horses out of modelling clay. Since that time, I have moved through many sculptural mediums and many subjects. Horses and other animals still flow through me; I feel them as they leave my hands and manifest into beautiful women, wild men or supernatural creatures.

I attended the Bemis Art School in Colorado Springs as a young adult. My family was very poor but I received the education on scholarship or through donations by local groups. After high school I served apprenticeships under two working artists in my area before opening a studio and gallery with another artist in the early 80s.

Beginning in the 90’s, I began searching for something new. In 2009 I stumbled onto Polymer clay and began working and experimenting with it. I love the freedom it offers and it was during this time that I began to work with the human form more seriously than I had ever done before.

I find it very interesting just how similar humans and animals are in their physical expression.
