A syncretic form of the gods HERMES and THOTH in Hellenistic Egypt, he was said to have brought humanity language, writing, science, medicine, magic, alchemy and astrology, to guide souls to the afterlife, mediate with the gods and to be the founder of the Western Magical Tradition.
