Description

This is a personal painting done for the Art Order challenge "Artists inspiring a Revolution". The contest's purpose is to raise awareness to environmental issues related to Air and Water. I chose the topic of oil spills, because they are a severe form of water pollution. Apart from the big oil tanker spills, e.g. the Great Barrier Reef oil spills, vessels continue to pollute the ocean by pumping tons of oil into the ocean while washing their tanks every day. Even here in Germany oil is spilled by dilapidated underground tanks into groundwater. One liter of oil makes up to five million liters of water unfit for human consumption. In the end it's not only the environment and the animals that suffer, but the human as well. Despite making beautiful patterns and colors on the surface of the water, oil is rather deadly.
