About Hilary Clarcq

Hilary Clarcq creates mood-driven paintings that combine realism with expressive abstraction. She starts each painting with an acrylic layer to establish the composition and begin building abstract textures. She then uses brushes, brayers, spatulas, and other tools to add and remove oil paint in any way that reinforces the desired mood, symbolism, and narrative. She's most interested in the relationship between humans and our environments, including the natural world, the world inside our minds, and the world we manufacture through construction and advertising.
