About Scott Murphy

Scott Murphy's artwork is a culmination of personal interests throughout his life, starting with a love of comic books and video games as an adolescent, and evolving into literature, movies, and music at a later age. His work seeks to implement all of those influences into captivating images. Painting characters and stories rooted in mythology, fairy tale, and fiction are what gives him the most excitement, and provide a perfect platform for letting his imagination run wild. Creating realistic images of characters and places that don't exist is a wonderful challenge and grants him a great sense of satisfaction. He believes that art should tell stories and offer a window into worlds unknown, whether they be light and happy or dark and grim. He hopes that his paintings fill the viewer with a sense of wonder and allow for further contemplation on the stories within. Scott is best known for his work illustrating cards for Magic: The Gathering, as well as book illustrations for Dungeons & Dragons. His work can be found on various other games and publications such as the Modern Spellcasters Tarot published by Llewellyn Worldwide. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Scott Murphy earned his BFA and MFA from the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford. His clients include Wizards of the Coast, Sideshow Collectibles, Paizo Publishing, Fantasy Flight Games, Applibot, Cygames, Scholastic, Capstone/Stone Arch Books, Little Brown and Company, 3D Total, and Llewellyn Worldwide. His work has been recognized by Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, Infected by Art, 3x3 magazine, and Imagine FX magazine. He is a member of the Western Massachusetts Illustrator's Guild, as well as an adjunct illustration professor at the University of Hartford. He lives and works in Western Massachusetts with his wife, artist Elisabeth Alba.
