I was partly inspired by the famous 17th-century sculpture, "Mysterious Sphinx" by Charles Van der Stappen. I wanted to re-imagine the idea of a fantastical warrior woman in a painting. Ionia speaks about the strength of women. She is celestial being with a story to tell. Susan is both a traditional and digital artist and also a professional photographer. Ionia was created as a fully digital painting with no photography. I approach my digital paintings just as would with a traditional work, hand-painting, in Photoshop, each aspect myself.
