About Eve Chabot

Eve Chabot, an artist born in 1970 in Drummondville, Quebec, began her artistic journey in the vibrant city of Montreal in 1988. It was there that she pursued her studies in visual arts and music. With a background in graphic design, Eve worked as an infographic artist at a law firm. However, in 2006, she made a pivotal decision to dedicate herself entirely to her artistic career. Setting up her studio at home, Eve began to explore the realm of digital mediums while creating her first illustrations and exhibiting her initial paintings. Her style predominantly falls within the figurative and classical genres, with a pronounced inclination towards Fantasy.

In 2016, Eve realized that technology had begun to occupy an excessive place in her life, prompting her to return to traditional mediums. As she reconnected with her art school days, she rediscovered her passion for watercolors. However, during the pandemic of 2020-2022, Eve faced a shortage of her favorite brand of paint. This predicament led her to experiment with creating her own watercolors using carefully selected natural pigments. This experience piqued her interest in the ancient technique of egg tempera painting. Eve embarked on the preparation of traditional linen-covered and gesso-covered panels, using centuries-old methods. This process added depth and authenticity to her art, allowing her to fully immerse herself in the creation process.

Eve draws inspiration from her immediate environment, the zeitgeist, nature, music, and the act of creation itself. Moreover, she delves into the folklore and legends of various civilizations, both past and present, to create an enchanting imaginary world that resonates with the hearts of mortals. As the years progress, Eve Chabot continues to evolve as an artist. Her dedication to exploring traditional mediums and her ability to integrate them with her fantastical style captivate art enthusiasts and leave a lasting impression on all who engage with her work.

I don't have a strong voice, so more often I prefer to watch and listen. I can better express my feelings with music and painting. And as an artist, I find immense joy in evoking emotions and provoking thoughts in others.

In my practice, I like to believe that I cultivate the spirit and the ancient knowledge of the history of painting. I am more interested in the creative process and the technique of producing a work. I tend more and more towards an old painting technique: egg tempera. Just like, I make my watercolor and tempera paints from 6 carefully chosen natural pigments, I prepare my panel in the traditional way by applying three coats of gesso to a linen canvas that I first glued with rabbit skin glue.

Choosing between watercolor and tempera is not an easy decision, as each technique brings its own beauty and expressiveness. Tempera is a complex and demanding technique, but it gives me immense satisfaction to master this art. When immersed in the creative process, I feel connected to something bigger than myself. Colors come to life under my brushes and shapes take shape with each stroke. It's a dance between my hand and my inner vision.

In short, my artistic approach feeds on observation, listening and the symbiosis between music and painting. I strive to create works that simply capture the beauty of nature. Each work of art I create is an invitation to the viewer to get lost in a world of reverie and contemplation.
